Causes of Sciatica

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes inflamed and irritated, causing immense pain. As long as the nerve is inflamed or irritated, the pain will remain. Sciatica pain is a stabbing pain that travels along the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down to the leg. Many people experience higher levels of pain when they get up after sitting down or sleeping.

On top of the pain, other symptoms of sciatica include weakness and a reduced range of motion. This can make it difficult to walk or move the leg in a normal fashion. Unfortunately, nerve pain does not respond well to over-the-counter pain medication. This leaves the sufferer in pain unless they find a way to reduce the irritation and inflammation of the sciatic nerve.

Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Many cases of sciatica are caused by compression of the sciatic nerve within the canal it runs in. Sometimes, the nerve comes into contact with the structures surrounding it. Relieving the compression or contact is a priority, which can be accomplished through chiropractic adjustments. These adjustments get the spinal column back into proper alignment so that the sciatic nerve can return to its natural places. Chiropractic care for sciatica will immediately reduce your pain and reduce the likelihood of the condition returning in the future. These adjustments are cumulative, and the more you have performed, the better you will feel.
